Publishing News

I’m sorry if you have already seen this post, but I have been having problems with my website and am trying to get the auto emails working again. Just delete if you have already seen this. If you receive this email in your inbox, please comment so I know it’s working! Thanks.

The Drum Literary Journal has just published my memoir piece Shards of Glass. This is an interesting journal because the stories are all read aloud by the authors. It was quite a challenge to get my voice recorded without the dog barking or the furnace kicking in at the wrong time, but I managed to jump through all the hoops and as far as I can tell, there isn’t any background noise in the piece. Since my memoir reads like fiction, it was put into the fiction section — but it is a part of my memoir Falling Away.

If you would like to hear me read my story, here’s the link:

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Angela, Congratulations. I will go to the drumlitmag directly, but I just want to tell you that I wondered if I’d been dropped from the blog. I missed you!
Happy to be in techno touch again.
Are you offering any workshops this summer?

Hi Niomi, I will be in Bemidji during June to do a workshop but haven’t gotten the details yet. Otherwise, my summer is pretty open. I’m thinking of doing another Writing in the Garden at Bev Abear’s house. That’s always a fun day!If I book anything, I’ll let you know.

Angela-good to hear from you again. Thought I had been dropped from your list also. This was an interesting experience – I’ve never ‘listened’ before. It was good. I felt like I was there. You could have been telling my story, it was so similar to my past. I felt my heart pounding in fear as you described the scene with Butch and Frank in the kitchen as you watched and tried to stop it. That felt very real to me, so you accomplished what you intended. Thank you for sharing.

This is my first e-blast from you and I’m looking forward to listening. If you do a summer workshop, count me in. I’m not into traveling to the city for classes…like to do as much fun stuff locally as possible and am delighted by the thought of a summer workshop!!!

Okay! I’ll keep you posted. I’ve been so busy I haven’t planned much for summer. I have a class coming up in May at the Loft on Beginning Pages. It’s all about how to write those important first pages. It’s on Saturday, May 12, from 1 -4. But it would require a drive into Minneapolis — not a bad drive since it’s just off of 35.

      Nice to hear from you!

    Hi Angela..
Nice to hear from you again. I recently realized I hadn’t received any fun emails from you in quite a while. I did see you pop your head into my class at that the Loft on March 17th (Scott’s class). I wanted to wave my hand around in the air like a 2nd grader!
Thank you for the link..I will definitely check in there.
I will be going to the Dwelling in the Woods for another intense writing week in May. I am so close to completing the first round revisions on my manuscript. As usual, life gets messy and in the way, so I haven’t done much work at home.
I look forward to another class with you sometime.
Also, I have a friend I would to put on your email list; she has started some writing classes and I recommended you.

Hi Deb, Good to hear from you! I didn’t know you were in Scott’s class that day. I would have felt like a rock star had you done that! Ha. I’m so glad your writing is moving along. It’s hard to fit it in, I know. I struggle with the same messy life stuff. If you want to add your friends e-mail to my list just go to the register button on the home page of my website. Or you can send her email to me and I can add it. I do have a class coming up at the Loft on Saturday, May 12, from 1-4. It’s called Jumping into the Story — about how to write effective opening pages of stories or manuscripts. It’s so important I thought I needed to do a class on it. Maybe I’ll see you there.
