Loved it! The voice of the author brings the emotion that is intended. Marvelous!

Thanks, Margaret. My sister read a poem from the book around the same time. It’s posted on the KAXE website if you’d like to hear it.

    HI Angela,
I loved your poem, “Dirt”! It came full circle. Dirt is a strong word and you made such creative use of it. Congratulations on the publication of “Farm Girls.” That’s so wonderful! I took a class from you at the Loft some years back and remember you suggested entering contests. I’m a fiction writer, not a poet, but I’m in the mood to enter some contests lately. Can you suggest a website or two that will give me a list of current fiction contests, deadlines etc.? Thanks! Maureen P.S. I recently completed a year of the Loft Mentorship. So instructive and inspiring.

Thank you for your kind words. I actually thought of using the word dirt because of a song by Johnny Cash in which he mentioned leaving his “empire of dirt” behind. I thought his words sounded like a true farmer.

The best place I have found for contests is: CRWROPPS | Live to Write – Write to Live

I would suggest checking them out pretty carefully before you send in any money with your entry. I like see who is judging the contest, what the prize is compared to the entry fee, and who has won the award in the past. If you run across a lot of big names (Stephen King, Robert Olen Butler, etc.) you might want to pull back. Some of the contests are out of the regular guys’ reach. But if you enter some of the smaller contests, the chances of a big win are good!

I’m so happy you found a good home at the Loft. It is a magical place. I’m still teaching there and where ever else I can. It’s nice to hear from you!
If you are ever in need of an editor, I’m available. Rates, etc. on my website.

Thanks for listening to my poem!
      Angela
